Another banner year for the Springfield College women’s track and field team will end at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships once again, as two members of the Pride will travel to North Central College in Naperville, Ill.

Junior Gabby Gaudreault and sophomore Amanda Martin will represent the Pride at the National Championships this weekend. Gaudreault will be competing in the 800-meter dash, while Martin will take part in the triple jump.

“It feels great to finally achieve my goal of qualifying for the NCAA Championships. I am really excited to compete against the best runners in the nation,” Gaudreault said in an email.

Gaudreault almost qualified as a member of Springfield’s 4×400-meter relay team, but they missed out after posting an NCAA provisional time at the ECAC Championships this past weekend. Undeterred, Gaudreault is hoping to finish in the top eight and earn All-American honors.

“It doesn’t stop here for me – just qualifying and getting the experience,” Gaudreault said. “I want to compete well and run a good time out there.”

Martin enters the field ranked 13th out of 15 competitors with two of the others also hailing from New England.

“Competing against familiar competitors helps my confidence in this meet because it’s nice to know that I know other people that I’ll be competing against,” Martin said in an email. “It makes me feel more relaxed knowing I have other people around that are familiar to me.”

Both athletes will compete on Sat., March 8.
