The Changing of the Seasons… And Your Wardrobe

fashionSo, allow me to point out the obvious and say that, yet again, we have skipped over a season and went right from winter to summer.

This past week, I went home to New Jersey on Monday night and stayed until Tuesday. Monday, it was rather warm when I was leaving school so I was dressed appropriately for the weather.

I assumed that since Monday was nice, Tuesday would be too. Mother Nature had a different plan.

On Tuesday, it snowed so bad in Jersey that I didn’t know whether I was going to be able to make it back to Massachusetts or not. I couldn’t believe my eyes, I just kept reiterating that it was April and the snowstorm was simply a sick joke.

Since I have been back, the weather here has been rather nice. I don’t mind skipping right to summer because I love the warm weather. However, skipping seasons not only makes it hard to dress for the weather but hard to start cleaning out some clothes for the end of the year.

One minute you’re reaching for your shorts and the next for your winter sweaters, it’s ridiculous.

As a senior, I am required to move out right after graduation. So that means I seriously need to get to business when it comes to cleaning out my room of things I don’t need.

I have decided that the easiest way to do so is to get rid of my bulkiest stuff first. I don’t think I will be wearing anymore of those super thick winter sweaters. If I wake up tomorrow and it is 32 degrees again, I can simply layer up.

I am one of those people who believe that if you dress like it is warm out, Mother Nature will listen and it will eventually get warmer. I know that sounds crazy, but can’t a girl dream?

The changing of seasons is always very hard to plan for, but it is an excuse to layer. I like this time of year because I am a huge fan of vests and this is the perfect time to break them out.

I get my vests at either Costco or Gap and they come in so many different colors. I would seriously wear one everyday if I could do it without being known as the “Vest Lady.”

It is important to learn how to layer, especially at the end of the year because we all need to do some spring-cleaning in order to make summer move-out easier on our families and ourselves.

So do yourself a favor and seriously clean out your closets of all the things you aren’t wearing and get rid of all the heavy winter stuff. Stick to the long sleeve shirts, thin sweaters and of course, vests until it is shorts weather.

Happy end of winter everyone!
