If you’ve been on Twitter or any form of social media, watched the Grammy’s, or are fans of Taylor Swift and Kanye West, then you know that the long standing feud that we once thought was over is still, in fact, going on.
As a little background, in 2009 at the MTV Video Music Awards Taylor Swift won Best Female Video of the Year for her music video “You Belong With Me”, beating out Beyonce’s infamous “Single Ladies” music video. During Taylor’s acceptance speech, Kanye West came onto the stage, took the microphone away from Swift and basically said Beyonce deserved to win but he was “gonna let her finish don’t worry.”
So that sparked the conflict in 2009. Then last year at the 2015 Grammy’s we thought the feud was over when Swift presented West with the Video Vanguard Award and took a lot of pictures like they were new found BFF’s.
Well, apparently the bad blood continues because in West’s new album The Life Of Pablo, which is currently only available on Tidal to stream, he has a line in the song “Famous” saying that he’s the one who made Swift famous, and a few other demeaning things.
West said t he asked Swift before putting this into his song claiming that he called Swift and told her about the line and she thought it was funny. Swifts spokesperson strongly denies that she knew about the actual lyric according to E! News.
After this blew up at the Yeezy Season 3 show in NYC, a lot of other celebrities took to social media to defend their BFF Swift. Gigi Hadid, who was in attendance at the show, tweeted “My attendance somewhere does not mean I agree with everything being said in the music playing there. My friends know of my loyalty.” Swifts brother, Austin Swift, posted an Instagram captioned “Spring cleaning. Here we go again,” and it’s him throwing out his Yeezy sneakers, West’s clothing line. Swift’s boyfriend, Calvin Harris, also commented on the Instagram saying “LOL” making it clear that he’s also on Swift’s side. Ruby Rose displayed her feelings loud and proud on twitter. Even President Barack Obama called West a not-so-friendly name showing us he’s taking Swift’s side.
After all of these celebrities took their sides and voiced their opinions about the matter, Swift addressed the issue during her speech after winning the 2016 Grammy for Album of the Year saying the devotes her success to the people around her that love her.
She also said, “there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit your accomplishments or your fame.”
As far as celebrity feuds go, this is by far one of the most famous and talked about feuds in Hollywood. Hopefully we can see these two stars back in each other’s good graces one day, but I don’t see it being any time soon.
