SPRINGFIELD – Springfield College men’s soccer defeated Elms on Wednesday, 3-0. One year removed from an ECAC championship, the Pride picked up their third straight win to remain undefeated during their 2016 campaign.

“I think we all believe that this year’s [team] is a step ahead of last year’s [team],” said sophomore Keon Haji. We’re feeling good right now, but we’re just trying to build up the momentum, because we want to play our best soccer in November.”

Springfield’s defense has yet to surrender a goal, and has outscored opponents 13-0 on the year. The Pride held the Blazers to nine shots for the game.

“Our work ethic was second to none today,” said men’s soccer coach Steffen Siebert. “We outworked [Elms] which had lots of skillful players. Both teams had a lot of chances at the end, but our blocking really made the difference.”

Senior Luke Alvaro earned a hat trick in the contest, and was assisted by Curtis Bolduc and Haji.

“One of the main things that we’ve worked on with [Alvaro] is playing [offense] off the ball,” Siegert said. “If he wins the ball in the other teams half [side of the field], it’s easier to score.”

Springfield’s next game is on Saturday, away at Westfield State.
