Continuing Springfield College’s storied history of tradition and familial involvement, Oct. 2 will mark the latest installment of the annual Family Weekend.
In typical festive fashion, a plethora of engaging activities are planned to bring the students and their families together after weeks of intense studying, often at the expense and neglect of those that love them most.
The festivities commence at 11 a.m. Friday morning, with farm-fresh produce and other seasonally baked favorites available at the farmer’s market until 2 p.m. (both days). After giving families a few hours for re-acquaintance, Cheney will be available for dinner from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. (both days), however pre-registration is encouraged, as ARAMARK can only accept a limited amount of walk-in guests.
Following dinner, students will present some of their incredible work from across all majors as the Mini-Scholars in Action reception takes place in Judd Gymnasium.
This will feature highlights of last year’s Scholars in Action Day as well as presentations ranging from posters, artwork, music, theatre, literature readings and dance routines.
From 8 p.m.-9 p.m., Family-Frenzied Bingo will occur at the Cafe Stage in Flynn Campus Union, hosted by the Campus Activities Board and the Office of Student Activities.
On Saturday, the Family Picnic starts at 11:30 a.m. following President Cooper’s welcome at Appleton Auditorium, and will last until 2:30 p.m. The family barbeque requires pre-registration, so don’t forget to reserve a ticket!
Both days will surely be filled with joy and pride.
With the vast array of past-times on the lawn, heart-racing athletic events, as well as family-oriented performances through the night, there will never be a lack of participatory shenanigans to engage in. Let us reimburse our parents with the same joy and pride they’ve given us over the years for a short weekend!
