The transition from high school to college can be challenging. Many colleges recognize this challenge, and provide on-campus resources for students to utilize. For incoming first-year students at Springfield College, here are several free tools and where to find them.
Counseling Center
The first of these resources is the Springfield College Counseling Center, located on the first floor of Massasoit Hall. The center’s main message, “You do not have to struggle alone,” its goal: to help students facing difficult mental health challenges by providing them with judgment-free and professional advice. The center also aims to be accessible to students by offering free and confidential service.
The Counseling Center is directed by Brian Krylowicz, a licensed psychologist who’s been at Springfield College since 2012. Alongside Krylowicz are other counselors and graduate assistants prepared to help any student in need. The Counseling Center is open Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and can be reached by phone at 413-748-3345.
Academic Success Center
Another resource for first-year students is the Academic Success Center. Found on the third floor of the Learning Commons, the Academic Success Center offers learning strategy and time management counseling, tutoring and assistance for students with documented disabilities.
The Academic Success Center is open Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. The center can be contacted through email at asc@springfieldcollege.edu or by phone at 413-748-3389.
Office of Financial Aid
The Office of Financial Aid is another resource for students navigating through the financial aid process can be overwhelming, but the office serves as a resort for students to shape their financial plan for attending Springfield College. The office provides three different kinds of financial aid – undergraduate aid, graduate aid and international aid. To book an appointment with your financial aid counselor, call 413-748-3108 or go online to https://springfield.edu/financial-aid.
Residence Life
As for inquiries about housing and residence life, there are several resources available for students.
One of these is your residential assistant who lives on the same floor as you and is there to help you transition to college life. Another is the Housing and Residence Life Office, which helps students determine which dorm they’d like to live in and even provides a list of items for students to bring to campus. If something is broken or not working in your room, a work order can be placed through PrideNet in MyProfile.
Department of Public Safety
Lastly, the Springfield College Department of Public Safety ensures that campus is safe and protected. Every officer is fully trained to help and assist anyone in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Public Safety is also in charge of campus transportation, providing campus shuttles – aka Pride Ride – which run a continuous loop around campus on Fridays and Saturdays from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. and make brief stops at selected locations,, including the dorms, PE Complex and Townhouses. It also helps with vehicle registration so that students can park on campus. The non-emergency line can be reached at 413-748-3516, while its emergency line is 413-748-5555. The Department of Public Safety building can be found behind the Health Sciences Center.
