Senior occupational therapy student Cassie Noonan is likely one of the busiest people at Springfield College. Outside of the classroom, Noonan juggles roles with the Student Occupational Therapy Association (SOTA), Student Ambassadors, the Partners Program and Leadership Summit. She has also just finished her time on the Executive Board for New Student Orientation. However, many students see her in her role as Co-Chair of Membership and Recruitment for the well-loved Campus Activities Board (CAB). Noonan sat down with the Student to talk about her role in CAB and what the program is looking to do this year.
The Student: How long have you been CAB’s membership and recruitment co-chair?
Noonan: Since last spring, so the beginning of 2024. Before that, I was a co-chair of leadership and management, so I ran E-board meetings, and now I run G-board meetings. Before that, I was a major events chair.
The Student: How long have you been with CAB in total?
Noonan: Since freshman year! All four years.
The Student: What goes on behind the scenes to put on a CAB event?
Noonan: Each chair — each E-board member — has their own specific role. For example, [we] have a Major Events Chair, and they’ll plan their own events. We have traditional events, and they’ll plan their own events. We have weekly meetings to discuss what each chair is planning and their planning process. We reach out to vendors, talk to advisors, discuss new events, stuff like that.
The Student: For off-campus events, like the Big E trip CAB recently hosted, what preparation do those trips typically entail?
Noonan: Any student from Springfield College can go to an off-campus event. There is a small cost, but it’s much cheaper than what a regular ticket would be. For example, the Big E costs $28 normally, but it was $10 through us for admission and bus transportation there and from. It’s nice for students and we have ticket sales the week before the event for them to sign up.
The Student: What’s your favorite event to either host or attend with CAB?
Noonan: I really like Casino Night because it kind of brings in a different demographic of students. A lot of guy athletes come which is fun and they always enjoy it, and it’s new and creative. We’ve been doing it every year since my freshman year and I think it was the first event I ran.
The Student: Do you have any new CAB events you’re trying to introduce?
Noonan: We try to come up with new ideas every year. We’re trying to do the Olympic games in October, more athletic-y sporting events and trying to get a new crowd of people, rather than doing the same food truck and activity.
