After graduating from Springfield College in December, Jaclin Robinson is now the Program Assistant for the Office of Student Engagement. Robinson first attended Springfield Technical Community College in 2021 before transferring to Springfield College two years later. During her time on campus Robinson was a part of multiple clubs and completed an internship with the Office of Student Engagement.

The Student sat down with Robinson to learn more about her role and how her experiences with SOAR – Summer Orientation Advising and Registration, and Leadership Lock-In.

The Student: What made you want to attend Springfield College?

Robinson: Springfield College came to STCC and they had early child education and that’s what I originally wanted to go into. When I got here I decided early education wasn’t for me and I switched to Psychology. I got really close with the transfer administrator at the time. She was able to communicate with me so nicely and I wasn’t getting that with other schools so I knew the community would be great once I transferred here.

The Student: What did your internship include?

Robinson: It started off as a job a few summers ago at the desk and they were looking for someone close by. Then it kind of turned into other jobs and I started doing Canva with posters and website building for them. I got a really cool experience where I worked with clubs and doors so I got my foot in the door with all the little things that student engagement works with.

The Student: What tasks come with the Program Assistant Position?

Robinson: I did a clubs and orgs training with executive members and I’ve been pushing one on one meetings with them to learn more about them and go over some of the things we’re looking for from them and what they’re doing this semester. I also work with SGA and CAB, I’m helping the first year class with some of their events, and I do the weekly flyers you see around campus.

The Student: How has participating in SOAR and Leadership Lock-In helped you with your current role?

Robinson: It helped build connections with students already as being a commuter student, I didn’t have a big foundation of who I’m connected with on campus, so at least I knew a lot of people from those programs. It gave me an opportunity to step up and be someone I know others can go to for advice or something that they’re looking for, it helped build my confidence in that way of knowing what I’m doing.

The Student: What is the number one item on your bucket list?

Robinson: My number one thing on my bucket list is I want to skydive. My brother did a few years ago in Newport and it looked like such a cool experience. I’m not afraid of heights at all, I love roller coasters so definitely skydiving too.

The Student: What makes you smile without fail?

Robinson: My first nephew was born, so I’m officially an aunt now. He’s the first grandkid in the family and anytime they send me a picture or video, an immediate smile on my face. That is the number one thing that makes my day right now.
