Jeremy Brown is a first-year student from Queensland, Australia. Before arriving on Alden Street, he attended Ipswich Grammar School. Brown, who majors in Computer Science, is also a part of the Springfield College men’s basketball team.
The Student had the chance to meet up with Brown to discuss life on campus so far.
Student: Why did you choose Springfield?
Brown: [The school] gave me a sense of good friendly vibes more than anything. I prefer that over a lot of things if I was to make a decision – that’d be the main choice.
Student: What are you looking forward to for the upcoming basketball season?
Brown: Learning: that’d be the biggest thing for me. Trying to change my mindset; It’s more of a progression thing.
Student: What is your favorite thing to do other than basketball?
Brown: Well, I spent a lot of time with family until I came here – but to date I’d probably say spending time or gaming with friends. Those two things take up my time when I’m not playing basketball.
Student: How is your first semester going?
Brown: No complaints. Just trying to manage my time as best as I can with the basketball season starting and with trainings every day. I’ve enjoyed the challenge of that. Just taking it day by day.
Student: What was your life like in Australia before coming to the United States?
Brown: In comparison to America, I would say it’s not too much of a difference in a Western country like America. It’s just interactions are a little different. People are socially a little different. Other than that, not too much of a difference.
Student: Did you ever play in any youth pro leagues before jumping onto the next level?
Brown: Basketball is a little different. In terms of AAU, we have that sort of competition but it’s a little bit different. And there’s not as much as exposure. I would say probably not.
Student: What is your gameday song?
Brown: One day, you could catch me listening to Drake, the next day you could catch me listening to Brandy from the 90s. I’d say ‘Always in my Heart.’
Student: After being halfway through the semester, who is your favorite professor?
Brown: It would have to be a mix between my Intro to Business and my Philosophy of Sport. Shout out to Professor Thompson.
Student: What is your favorite pre-game meal?
Brown: If it’s close to the game, I’d say I try to chop down a couple bananas. If it’s not close to the game, I’d say Spag Bog, which is spaghetti bolognese.
Student: If you could have dinner with anyone in the world who would it be?
Brown: My great great grandma.
