The Springfield College men’s basketball team heads to the Mass Mutual Center this Friday to take on Trinity College at 5 p.m. in the 2011 Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame Holiday Showcase.
Things don’t get any easier for the Pride as they travel to Williamstown, Mass to take on No. 8 Williams College on Saturday.
After a disappointing showing in the Pioneer Valley Classic last weekend, Head Coach Charlie Brock is using it as a learning curve for his team.
“Friday’s game against Amherst was a well played game, and if we could take back three or four possessions, that outcome is a little different,” said Brock.
The Pride fell to the Lords Jeffs 81-71 last Friday night. The following day, however, is what Brock doesn’t want his team to forget.
Saturday, the Pride took on Elms College and fell 69-59. Although the Blazers took down Westfield Friday night, their 1-3 record didn’t provide much motivation for Springfield.
“We had a tough time getting back to that level emotionally against Elms,” said Brock. “I think there was a little bit of a letdown from looking at their record.”
“Bottom line though is that we have to play and shoot the ball well no matter what.”
Springfield held some up-tempo practices Monday and Tuesday to get back into some rhythm and prepare for the tough weekend ahead. A lot of emphasis was put on finding good looks offensively and knocking them down.
Alex Berthiaume leads the Pride in scoring, averaging 20.4 points per game while Ryan Coburn has dominated defensively with 22 blocks and 7.5 rebounds per game.
