Thinking back, times have changed a lot since the ‘90s. The simple things that made our childhoods so much fun are just a distant memory now.
It is hard to imagine kids now growing up without a few key ‘90s items that we all know and love.
For example, remember the creation of the gel pens in every color under the sun? Taking notes in class back then was so much fun. Whipping out a gel pen in class instantly made you a “cool kid.”
The second item on the list of ‘90s wonders is the mood ring. It was one of those, “if you want to know how I’m feeling check my ring things.” They came in all different shapes and styles and were the ring to have.
Then there were the stick-on earrings, the answer to the prayers of every girl without pierced ears. They came in the oddest shapes too, like hearts, flowers, triangles, squares and half-moons.
And just in case those earrings didn’t make you cool enough, there were the flavored chapsticks. Smackers came out with the soda-flavored chapstick that were all the rage.
My personal favorite ‘90s trend was the Giga Pet. Kids could have as many animals as they wanted and there was no mess. Virtual animals may seem a bit lame, but they were so much fun.
Then there was the butterfly clip trend. I don’t know who came up with these clips, but they were the prettiest clips to wear in your hair. We were young, so the fact that they stuck out of our heads and made us look funny didn’t matter at all.
The last big thing the ‘90s had to offer the fashion world was the choker. These necklaces were all the rage. And yes, they did choke you. The fashion statement was unlike any other in middle school.
This necklace implied toughness; no one wanted to mess with the girls with the chokers. And the trend was to sport more than one of these bad boys on your neck at once.
At the end of the day, the ‘90s were simply a better time, chokers and all.
