Springfield College’s annual Family Weekend is set to take place this Friday and Saturday, providing students and their loved ones with an opportunity to reconnect now that the academic year is off and running.
Much like in years past, there will be activities for students and their families to partake in over the course of this Family Weekend. Regardless of people’s interests, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
Families can go to the lobby of the Union for registration between 4-7 p.m. on Friday, with dinner available at Cheney between 5-7 p.m.
After everyone has had time to register and settle in, the weekend’s festivities will commence with a game of Family Frenzied Bingo at 8 p.m. under the Admin Green tent. With bingo being such a popular event amongst students on this campus, families will have the chance to experience it for themselves.
On Saturday, registration will open at 10 a.m. in the Union and run until 5 p.m. The day will start with a barbecue on the Admin Green, and a DJ will also be present at this event. While pre-registration is required for the barbecue, a limited number of tickets could be available in the Union, so that is worth checking on for those who did not pre-register.
Then, from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m, there will be various fun games taking place on the lawn in front of the Union. Attendees can play cornhole, jump around on inflatables, enjoy live entertainment from a band and visit a caricature artist who will craft unique illustrations for families.
Elsewhere in the early stages of Saturday afternoon, families can play laser tag starting at 1 p.m. on the Abbey Green. Sign-ups for laser tag will be on the Abbey Green, but those who sign up first will get to play first.
If anyone is hungry throughout the afternoon, they’ll be covered in this department, too. There will be an ice cream truck in front of the Union from 1-3 p.m., and candy will also be available from Maureen’s Sweet Shoppe, an East Longmeadow-based company.
As the afternoon progresses, there will be a game of family trivia on the Admin Green from 3-4 p.m., with prizes available for winners.
For those interested in watching one of Springfield College’s sports teams in action, there will be several games for people to pick from. The field hockey team plays at noon, the women’s soccer team takes the pitch an hour later and the football team has a game at 3:30 p.m.
The two-day event will culminate with a comedy and magic show from Trent James in the Fuller Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Many families are evidently looking forward to James’ performance, as the show has already been sold out.
This array of activities and entertainment will make this weekend much more exciting for families as they spend time with their kids.
