I’m really getting sick of the janitors having to pick up after the students here like maids. How do you feel about that?
-Clean and Concerned
Dear Clean and Concerned,
I TOTALLY agree with you. I think it’s super disrespectful when people (not just students here, but people anywhere) don’t pick up after themselves. Whether there is someone working there or not, I feel like it’s always rude to not clean up after yourself. People who leave popcorn bags on the ground in movie theaters, or people who leave things on the tables in Cheney, it’s all the same to me. You can take the extra 30 seconds to respect the people and institution around you by cleaning up your own mess. As a rule, I think it’s also nice to try and help clean up after other people, even if you weren’t the rude one who left the mess. That way, there’s less for others to clean up, and you’ve just done a good deed.
I really miss my friends at home, but I don’t want to be that person who goes home every weekend. What do you think I should do?
Dear Homeward Bound,
I totally understand the feeling of missing loved ones from home. They were a huge part of your life before you came to college, and those relationships don’t change just because you’ve moved away. As hard as it is though, I think it’s really important to try and stay on campus as much as possible. You only have four years to live with the amazing people around you, and going home every weekend will take away from the incredible experiences happening here!
There are definitely ways to keep in touch with people from home without having to leave every weekend to see them. Try inviting a friend or two to come and stay the night or even the weekend on campus. This way you get to see your friends from home without missing out on whatever is happening here. You could also try splitting up your weekends. This way you could spend Friday night here, and Saturday night at home, meaning you get to see all your friends equally. You could also meet up with your friends for dinner or a movie, and come back to campus afterwards. There are a lot of ways to make sure you see your friends from home, but just make sure you’re spending as much time as you can at this amazing place. One day, you’ll look back and realize you’re already a senior, and it will be too late to go back and attend all those fun events you missed because you decided to go home. Either way, I hope you’re having fun!
