Bucket Hat Disaster

Let’s play a game: what has two metal grommets, one on either side, is made out of extremely heavy duty cotton, and has a gigantic brim that goes completely around your head?

If you guessed an absolutely horrendous article of clothing, then you would be correct. If you went on to say that this extremely hideous article of clothing is a bucket hat, well then you hit the jackpot.

Can you tell there is distaste behind this new trend for the bucket hat? Now, one may have thought that this trend was only a Springfield College thing, that only college guys would be silly enough to put these awful hats on their heads and walk around campus.

It turns my stomach to inform you that unfortunately that is not the case. This awful tread has spread from California to New York and beyond; the bucket hat is taking over the fashion industry.

Some of the most intricate hats are selling for upwards of $50. I wouldn’t spend $2 on one, and people are out there paying $50. What has the world come to?

That being said, if this is becoming a staple in people’s wardrobes then I am required to give my advice on how one should go about wearing this kind of hat.

First things first, the bucket is not just designed for guys. They actually make less hideous women’s versions of the bucket hat. So, if you are a hat kind of girl, look online and see if you can find a cute one that suits your taste.

As seen on this campus, they come in all different colors and patterns. My suggestion to the guys attempting to pull this look off would be to not wear a patterned hat with a different patterned shirt.

If you are dead set on wearing a patterned hat, then find a solid color shirt that is the same color as one of the colors in the hat. It really isn’t that complicated and it will make the fact that you are wearing a bucket hat a little less painful to the eye.

So go run along, buy the bucket hat of your dreams and wear it proudly for now because believe me, it won’t be in style for long.
