Dressing for Graduation

fashionFinally the weather is being kind to us. We couldn’t have asked for nicer weather this past weekend, and although it rained a little in the beginning of the week, it looks like Sti-Yu-Ka will end beautifully as well.

It would seem, however, that we skipped right over spring and went right to summer. I felt like one day I was wearing a sweater and jeans and the next I was in shorts and a tank.

Like I always say, dressing for weather like this can sometimes be difficult, but the secret lies in knowing how to layer.

Having said that, this warm weather is a clear indication that this school year is coming to a close. And for some, myself included, graduation is looming.

For the guys, dressing for the baccalaureate and graduation is pretty simple: dress pants and a shirt and tie. It is just so much easier to be a guy.

Anyway, girls have to have two dresses ready, one for the baccalaureate and one for graduation. For the baccalaureate, I think a sundress with a bit of a fancier touch is appropriate.

There is a boutique called Francesca’s in some of the malls around here and it is the perfect place to shop. They have dresses and all kinds of cute skirts that would be perfect for a function like the baccalaureate.

As for graduation, if you are anything like me, you are probably going to overdo it. After all, you only graduate from college once so you may as well do it in a killer dress.

I would suggest picking a dress that is still fun, but on the more formal side. The trick is to find a fancy dress in a really vibrant color, especially since our caps and gowns are all black. Adding some color to that will give the look more spunk and personality. I found my dress in Macy’s for a relatively reasonable price.

Both of my dresses have skinny straps, though, so I will most definitely have cardigans on hand just in case it gets a bit chilly.

On an ending note, for all seniors out there, don’t forget to decorate your caps. It is a fun thing to do and it will help your parents spot you when you are sitting in the crowd at graduation.

Just swing by a Michaels or craft store and pick up some glitter and sticky letters and go crazy.

There are some super fun ideas for decorating caps on Pinterest, so check it out and have a ball, guys.
