Come one, come all to the annual Springfield College Family Weekend, held on campus this weekend, October 4-6. There will be food, music, sports, fun and more!

With plenty of events to keep you busy all day, your family will get a little taste of how we work and maybe spark that SC spirit deep within.

“Not everyone has the opportunity to go home every weekend,” stated Annie Warchol, the assistant director of Student Activities. “Family Weekend is an opportunity for families to reconnect and reunite on the Springfield College campus.”

With a weekend planned that is full of excitement and events, your family can see everything Springfield College has to offer while enjoying their SC family member(s). With tons of unique events, Family Weekend is a time for bonding, memories and fun.

“It provides a great opportunity for students who haven’t seen their familiess to spend time with them all weekend,” said Dillon Braille, a sophomore on the football team.

Starting on Friday, October 4, you and your family can begin the fun by checking in at the Union, starting at 10 a.m. Friday’s events include a farers market (fresh locally grown deliciousness), lunch with Dean Braverman (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.), and Student Life Open Houses, which allow you and your family to talk about programs that help students on campus.

Friday will conclude with Bingo and a performance by the musical group, The Cover Up, in the Union starting at 8 p.m.

Saturday kicks off with a First-year Family Breakfast at 9 a.m., which allows freshmen to introduce their family to their new friends and colleagues. Also, starting at 10 a.m. and ending at 2:30 p.m., there will be games and inflatables on the grass throughout campus.

“It’s nice because it is their first time back since dropping off their students,” stated Warchol. “The families are so happy to see the college and that their children are doing well.”

With a picnic kicking-off the football game versus Union College, everyone in attendance can witness two top-tier Division III football programs square off in front of hundreds of screaming Springfield fans.

However, the football team isn’t the only SC team playing Saturday. Both women and men’s soccer teams have games at 12 and 2:30 p.m., respectively. So, if football games aren’t your scene, check out and support our other fútbol teams.

Saturday night has multiple options as well, including music by The O-Tones Big Band in the Union at 7 p.m. and recreational activities and games in the Recreation Center starting at 9 p.m.

The weekend doesn’t end there. On Sun., October 6, there is a golf tournament and 5K run. The golf tournament will be held at Veterans Golf Course in Springfield and will include lunch, a cart and 18 holes for $50 a person.

The 5K, sponsored by the Class of 2015, will be held right here on campus. Take a nice running or walking tour of the beautiful Springfield College campus with your family and friends, or even yourself.

Concluding with brunch from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Sunday, Family Weekend is whatever you and your family make of it. All involved can have fun, as long as you’re involved. Take this opportunity to show off your campus and your Springfield College spirit to your loved ones.

“It’s just a great, fun weekend,” said Warchol.

Family Weekend is a unique and once-a-year experience, so take advantage and have fun! All are welcome to join in the fun that is Family Weekend at Springfield College.
