Springfield College is a campus that lives and breathes sport. As a sea of students make their way across campus each and every day, it is nearly impossible to miss their assorted Springfield athletic program or favorite professional sports team attire.
For those who like to participate in the competition side, there is also no shortage of opportunities for everyone on campus, regardless of schedule or skill.
“[Intramural sports] are a great way to get your mind away from the classroom and have fun with your friends,” said Colleen Brown, a Graduate Assistant for the Intramural program at Springfield. “If you don’t play a varsity sport but still love competing, it’s a way to still be a part of an athletic community.”
As a student at Springfield, Brown was the captain of her intramural volleyball team “Too Legit To Hit” and remembers her experiences fondly.
“We won [the championship] once, and we got the t-shirts and we even live streamed the game,” Brown said. “That was very much a core memory, and sometimes we’ll still text in the team group chat.”
Volleyball, along with basketball, won’t be available until after Halloween but students can participate in flag football, soccer, pickleball, cornhole and doubles tennis during the “fall” season. There are no practices and typically just one to two games per week for each sport.
Brown helped design this year’s Intramural Championship shirt. To win one of these shirts, the first step is to join a team.
To sign up, participants must download the ImLeagues App, add Springfield College as the school and create an account. From there, you can view the available sports to sign up for. You can choose to select a team you want to play on or sign up as a free agent if you don’t know anybody on the existing teams. The last day to sign up for this session is Sept. 19.
