Togetherness was always the buzzword when it came to Dr. John Wilson. During his extensive career as the Multicultural Affairs Director at Springfield College, Wilson worked tirelessly to make the college an accepting place to all students. Whether it was heading up programming or advising a club, Dr. Wilson’s presence was felt all about the campus.
He also spent his time here as an advisor to the Student Society for Bridging Diversity, or SSBD. When Wilson passed away just over a year ago on Feb. 13, SSBD found one of many ways to honor Wilson with the Legacy Ball.
“We wanted to do something very grand,” said SSBD president Ashley Glover. “Just because he passed away, we are still going to continue what he wants to do, so he left a legacy on us.”
This year will be the second annual Legacy Ball and it is expected to be exceptionally well-attended.
“We so far have up to 90 RSVPs, we are only taking 100 unfortunately,” Glover said. “We encourage a lot of people to come…It’s to have a good time with everybody you want to mingle with, connect with in unfortunately just two hours but hopefully it goes beyond that.”
All proceeds will go to the John Wilson scholarship.
The ball will be held on Feb. 26 from 6:15 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Dodge Ballroom in the Campus Union. It will begin with a cocktail hour and will also feature music, entertainment and a short award ceremony. Tickets are $5 for students, $7 for alumni and $10 for the general public.
SSBD will be in the union selling tickets from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. Any questions can be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
