Makeup: Natural is Best

Let’s talk makeup. When I was in middle school I remember wanting nothing more than to wear makeup. All the pretty, popular girls wore makeup, lots of it, and boy, was I jealous.

fashionLet’s talk makeup. When I was in middle school I remember wanting nothing more than to wear makeup. All the pretty, popular girls wore makeup, lots of it, and boy, was I jealous.

This is embarrassing, but one time I raided my mom’s makeup drawer and found a pencil that looked like brown eyeliner. I didn’t know what I was doing so I applied it to the best of my ability. A couple days later I realized that I had been wearing lip liner on my eyes. It was in that moment I realized I had no idea what I was doing when it came to making myself look pretty.
Naturally, I began begging my mom to buy me some makeup and eventually she did. She bought me some actual eyeliner and showed me how to put it on. After a couple of days of wearing it the way she taught me to, I decided I needed more; I needed my eyes to look as darkly lined as the other girls.
I thought I was so smart, putting it on the way my mom thought was appropriate at home and then leaving and putting more on at school. It was working out so well until I forgot to wipe it off on the bus and walked into my house looking like I went 12 round with Mike Tyson. Needless to say, that was the end of my eyeliner-wearing days for a while. I was so mad when my mom threw it away, I am pretty sure I actually cried.
Eventually my mom decided I could wear makeup again, only if I did it the right way. She always used to say, “Makeup should enhance your look, not cover it up.” I learned how to make that happen and I remember feeling so pretty when I finally got it right.

When it comes to applying makeup, it is all about highlighting your best features; you shouldn’t try to cover up and change the way you look because that isn’t the purpose of makeup.
I see genuinely pretty girls all the time that think they have to wear lots of makeup to look beautiful and that simply isn’t the case.
Girls should try to do their makeup to look as natural as possible because natural beauty is so much better than trying to pile makeup on an already pretty face.

During the day, use a little BB cream under your eyes if you haven’t gotten enough sleep, a little eyeliner and a little mascara and that should do the trick. At night, feel free to go with darker eyeliner and maybe a bolder lip color, but never cover up your face, you don’t need to. Let the beautiful you shine through!
