The Springfield College track team competed against Middlebury, SUNY Plattsburgh, and Wheaton at home this past weekend. The women finished in 2nd place with a score of 188 points, while the men also finished in 2nd with a score of 174 points.
The women were led by Darian Dailey who finished first in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.87 seconds. Sarah Skillin dashed to a first place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:00.84. Erin Womboldt jumped to a first place finish in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.65 seconds. The 4×100 meter relay team consisting of Courtney Luscier, Darian Dailey, Rachel Kaliff and Amanda Wright finished 1st with a combined time of 50.63 seconds. Carly Markos rounded out the women’s’ impressive string of performances by taking 1st in the hammer throw with a distance of 46.51 meters.
The men were led by John O’Hanlon who took first in the 5000 meter run with a time of 15:40.06. The 4×100 meter relay team consisting of Marlon Black, Conor Strain, Jacob Buhelt and Michael Hunter finished first with a combined time of 44.37 seconds. Jason Laramee jumped to a first place finish in the high jump with a height of 1.88 meters. Whit Devaux powered his way to a first place finish in the javelin throw with a distance of 54.59 meters. Brandon Hammerstrom rounded out the men’s strong round of performances by taking first in the shot put with a distance of 14.44 meters and first in the hammer throw with a distance of 45.67 meters.
“I was extremely pleased at our performances. Being the second meet and knowing with our training, that we are trying to trying to peak them later in the season,” said Coach Ken Klatka. “To have ten or twelve kids qualify for the New England’s this early, made me extremely please. Some beyond my expectations already.”
The team will look to continue their momentum as they will return home next weekend against Coast Guard, WPI and Mount Holyoke.
