The Springfield College track team competed in the Springfield College Classic at home this past weekend. The women finished in fourth, with a score of 86.5 points, while the men finished in sixth, with a score of 87 points.
The women were led by Erin Womboldt, who jumped to a first place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.36 seconds and first in the triple jump, with a distance of 10.90 meters. Darian Dailey jumped to a first place finish in the long jump with a distance of 5.23 meters. Carly Markos dominated, placing first in the hammer throw with a distance of 52.81 meters. The 4×400 meter relay team consisting of Kristen Madeia, Colleen Rice, Macayla LaChance and Katharine Lewis rounded out the women’s strong performances by finishing first with a combined time of 4:12.94.
The men were led by Jack Pinho, who dashed to a first place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.67. John O’Hanlon held onto first in the 5000 meter run with a time of 15:44.68. Alexander Niemiec jumped to a second place finish in the long jump with a distance of 6.72 meters. The 4×100 meter relay team consisting of Marlon Black, Jacob Buhelt, Michael Hunter and Niemiec grabbed second with a combined time of 43.81 meters. Brandon Hammerstrom rounded out the men’s’ strong round of performances by taking second in shot put, with a distance of 14.91 meters, and third in the hammer throw with a distance of 45.64 meters.
The team will now prepare for the NEWMAC championships, which will take place Saturday at Coast Guard.
