The Springfield College men’s volleyball team experienced something quite unknown to them on Wednesday night; a loss. The top ranked Pride were swept (25-23, 25-21, 25-17) by no.2 New Paltz.

The loss in New Paltz, N.Y. was the first one for Springfield (21-2) since a five-set loss to Conordia on January 16th. The Hawks (20-2) received a game-high 13 kills from Joe Norman while Anthony Bonilla had 10 kills.

Senior Luis Vega led Springfield with nine kills, four digs, and three blocks. Another bright spot was Julian Welsh-White had a career-high in blocks with eight.

New Paltz not only snapped the Pride’s 20 game-winning streak but became the first Division III team this year to take down the maroon and white.

In the next month, Springfield has just six matches remaining before they head into postseason play. Springfield begins their road back to success after Spring Break when they face off with Sage and Daniel Webster on March 26th in Dana Gymnasium.
