MIT Sweeps Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving

Last Saturday, the Pride men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams competed in their second home meet of the season against MIT. The men headed into Saturday with a 2-1 record, while the women headed in with a 3-1 record overall. The women were coming off a huge defeat of Smith College.

The men were defeated by a score of 220-78 by MIT.

With a NEWMAC Diver of the Week award already on his resume, sophomore Jack Lewis led all divers by winning the three-meter with a 277.27 and placed second on the one-meter with a national-qualifying score of 285.37. Senior Kenny Pancoast also won the one-meter after registering a national-qualifying score of 299.5.

The Pride also had some strong showings in the pool. Sophomore back and freestyler Kelly Dullard swam to a third-place finish in the 200 free in 1:51.49. Senior freestyler Nolan Manley also had a strong showing by finishing third in the 50 free with a time of 22.57.

The women were defeated by a score of 180.50-119.50 on Saturday against MIT.

The team of Kelsey Poole, Nicolle Stracqualursi, Callie Phillips and Amanda Shaw opened the meet touching second in the 400-medley relay in 4:09.92.

Junior Kellie Pennington was victorious in a pair of events, claiming the 50 free in 24.20 and the 100 free in 54.18. Ashleigh Monroe had Springfield’s other individual win in the pool, as she claimed a win in the 1,650 free after posting a time of 18:16.64.

Junior diver Jennifer Thompson swept the diving events with a pair of national qualifying standards. She won the one-meter board with a score of 269.39 before totaling a 281.77 to win the three-meter board.

The men and women head to Wheaton College on Saturday to compete in their final meet before Thanksgiving break. They will take on Wheaton and Keene State. The meet is expected to begin at 1 p.m.
