Springfield College had a handful of athletes compete in the 2015 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Track and Field Championship at Armory Track in New York.

“The meet went very well,” women’s track coach James Pennington said. “A lot of people had season bests. Pretty much everybody had their best performances of the year, just a good way to end our season.”

The women’s team finished in just 36th place with eight total points, but had several athletes leave their mark on the event. Amanda Martin took third overall in the triple jump, with a mark of 11.63 meters.

“[Amanda’s] a very consistent jumper,” Pennington said. “She’s one of the best jumpers in New England. She is just ready to pop a big one off, and hopefully it will be at nationals.”

Abby Wright took sixth in the 800 meter dash with a 2 minute and 16 second time.

“Wright missed making nationals by two-tenths of a second, a blink of an eye.” Pennington said. “She has been running really well, just so much faster than last year. She’s more positive and just confident in her abilities.”

Other high finishers for the Pride include Courtney Luscier, who finished 10th in the 60 meter dash, Samantha Pomroy who finished 12th in the 500 meter dash, and the 4X400 relay team, which finished 16th.

For the men’s team, John Dayton’s impressive season continued with a second-place finish in the weight throw, with a mark of 63 feet, 7.5 inches.

Jason Laramee took tenth in the high jump, jumping six feet, three inches.
