Rebecca Edwards starts as Title IX Coordinator

By Greg Allen

As of Monday, Feb. 27, Rebecca Edwards is Springfield College’s Title IX Coordinator. Calvin Hill, Springfield’s Vice President of Inclusion and Community Engagement, was acting as the Title IX Coordinator, and he has now turned that role over to Edwards.

According to Springfield College, The College’s Title IX Coordinator, working with designated deputy Title IX Coordinators and other College officials, monitors compliance with Title IX and coordinates the College’s response to complaints of discrimination based on sex. These College officials provide complainants with information about institutional and law enforcement options for resolution of their complaints. They also assist complainants in receiving health, counseling, and other support services and facilitate implementation of interim measures, such as modifications to housing arrangements and class or work schedules.

Edwards said, “My overarching goal as the Title IX Coordinator is to make sure that policies, procedures, educational opportunities, and support structures are in place, ensuring that Springfield College is a safe, nurturing and equitable environment for students to pursue their education.”

Although she has been here for under a week, Edwards is already enjoying and fitting into the community.

“I am very excited to be here at Springfield College in the capacity of Title IX Coordinator and Access Officer,” Edwards said. “My initial impression of campus is that there is a lot of great energy from the campus community, students staff and faculty alike. I am delighted to be a part of this community and am looking forward to working with everyone.”

Shannon Finning, Springfield’s Vice President of Student Affairs is looking forward to the opportunity to collaborate with Edwards.

“I am delighted to welcome Rebecca to the Springfield College community,” Finning said. “During Rebecca’s on-campus interview, her passion for this work and desire to engage all members of our community in prevention and education efforts as well as response, was immediately apparent. I’m confident she will be an excellent partner to Sue Nowlan in her role as Dean of Students/Deputy Title IX coordinator, as well as to staff across the Division of Student Affairs, myself included. I’m committed to Rebecca’s success and look forward to developing a close and strong working relationship over the days, weeks and months ahead”
