One of the greatest honors that a freshman student-athlete is able to receive is the “Rookie of the Year” award to recognize them as one of the best freshmen athletes in the NEWMAC conference as a part of the NCAA. Last year, Springfield College was home to three “Rookies of the Year” with setter Sara Labadorf earning the award through her efforts and skills on the Women’s Volleyball Team.
Hailing from Charlotte, North Carolina, Labadorf racked up 983 assists during her freshman career with an average of 9.63 assists per set. “I actually did not know I received the award until the alumni match in the spring,” said Labadorf. “Coach was announcing the All-American awards and she said I got ‘Rookie of the Year’ and I was taken aback and just in awe and shock.”
Labadorf also achieved Second Team All-Conference and is the fifth woman from Springfield College’s volleyball program to receive the “Rookie of the Year” award in the past 27 years.
