Men’s Basketball: A competitive 72-68 loss to Clark ended the Pride’s season on Saturday. Curtiss Blische led the Pride in scoring in both contests with 16 points in the 72-63 loss to WPI and 15 points against Clark. Springfield finished with a record of 7-18, 4-12 in NEWMAC play, having lost 10 of its final 12 games.
Women’s Basketball: After squeaking past Emerson 73-71 in their final regular season game, the Pride clinched the NEWMAC regular season title for the seventh time overall and first in nine years. The Pride hit a program-record 14 threes against Clark in a 107-77 victory before defeating Emerson, ending their season winners of nine straight. Jaélen Daubon and Angela Czeremcha swept the NEWMAC weekly honors, with Daubon taking the offensive award after averaging 23.5 points per game, and Czeremcha’s back-to-back 16-rebound performances helping her win the defensive award.
Men’s Gymnastics: In its trip to the University of Michigan, Springfield earned a second place finish in a tri-meet that also included Arizona State. Sam Kaplan won the all-around competition, leading to him repeating as ECAC Co-Gymnast of the Week. Peyton Cramer also had an individual win on the pommel horse, winning his third ECAC Rookie of the Week.
Women’s Gymnastics: Three records fell or were tied in a dual meet against Cortland, which Springfield narrowly lost. Sophia LeBlanc tied the school record with a 9.800 on the uneven bars while Julia Reer totaled a 9.900 on the floor to tie the school record. The Pride broke the team floor record with its total of 48.700, topping the previous best of 48.600.
Men’s Lacrosse: Mason Nocito’s career-best four goals were not enough, as Springfield fell to Nazareth in its season opener. The Pride led for large stretches, but seven turnovers in the final frame did them in. Goalie Kaden Quirk made 12 saves in his Springfield debut.
Men’s Track and Field: Mike Anderson gained top spot in the 60-meter hurdles record book after running a 8.30, beating his old record of 8.35. Individual winners at the Triangle Classic in the field house included a list of sprinters: Dante Lingley in the 60-meter dash, Evan Weber in the 200-meter and Sam Polley in the 400-meter.
Women’s Track and Field: Katherine DeFosse became the second first-year to set a school-record in the 60-meter hurdles, with a time of 9.02 to win the event for Springfield. Samantha Paul was the other individual winner for the Pride in the triple jump, with the 4×400 relay team also winning. Maggie Donohue and Meghan Sullivan tallied runner-up finishes in the 400 and 5,000 meter runs.
Men’s Volleyball: The No. 4 Pride swept their three games this week, extending their win streak to 12. The Pride beat New Paltz in four sets led by Evan Costley’s team-high 15 kills. In a doubleheader on Saturday, they cruised by Rivier before struggling to a five-set win over St. Joseph’s. Dylan Mulvaney’s stellar setting helped anchor the team, while Ethan Walters totaled double-digit kills in all three contests.
Wrestling: In their final dual meet of the season, the Pride found themselves trailing Norwich 16-12 after five matches, but they proceeded to rip off five consecutive wins to take the meet 35-16. Isiac Paulino and Gianni Manginelli started off with two decisions, before Ryan Kozdra and Luke Temple earned back-to-back technical falls. Jared Swartz won the final match to secure the win.
