Wednesday night was a busy night in Blake Arena, as both the men’s and women’s basketball teams played home contests against NEWMAC foes. Both teams came away with victories, continuing what has been a rather successful winter for Springfield College Athletics.

Off the basketball court the Pride have been just as successful as the wrestling, track and swimming & diving squads. They all have enjoyed their fair share of successes as well.

WRESTLING: Coach Jason Holder and his wrestlers dominated Plymouth State over the weekend in a dual meet, scoring a 41-6 victory over the Panthers. Eight of the Pride’s 10 wrestlers came away with victories, with four coming by way of pinfall.

Mark Pinto (141 lbs.), Dylan Foley (149), Derrick Longo (165) and John Gabordi (285) scored the pins while Tom Casper (125), Eric Hamrick (157), Jimmy Coutomas (174) and David Dubin (197) were the other victorious wrestlers on the day.

Hamerick, a sophomore from Collingswood, N.J., was named NEWA Co-Wrestler of the Week after going 3-0.

TRACK & FIELD: Several members of the men’s and women’s track & field teams participated in the Tufts Cupid Challenger over the weekend with some impressive results.

The women’s 4×400 relay team of Laurie Jenkins, Gabby Gaudreault, Jessica Miller and Crystal Davis combined to run a time of 4:00.81 to finish well ahead of the competition. The time was good enough for the second-fastest time in New England this season.

On the men’s side, freshman thrower Brandon Hammerstrom finished third in the shotput with a throw of 42-09.75 and was the top individual finisher on the day.

SWIMMING & DIVING: The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will be participating in the NEWMAC Championships this coming weekend in Cambridge, Mass.
