Each year, Springfield College hosts the popular Fit Fest event on campus, located in the Wellness and Recreation Complex for students and the public.
The event will be on Thursday, Feb. 20 and is free of charge and open to everyone.
The day hosts more than 40 exhibits and activities by different Springfield College groups, addressing how to achieve personal wellness, something that is very important in this institution. A variety of informal exhibits with information about heart health, mental health, food safety and healthcare will be in the Field House for display and interactions.
Fit Fest is run by Campus Recreation graduate associates and interns and also directed by co-chairs Mary Kate McMahon and Kristen Brosius. The planning for this event starts in November, with the co-chairs advising the team with things like “save the dates,” and finding potential exhibitors. Everything comes together in January when the “save the dates” are sent out to the final exhibitors, necessary equipment is found and of course those awesome Fit Fest T-shirts are ordered.
This year’s Fit Fest event entails many things that the Springfield community has to look forward to. With sponsors such as the American Red Cross Blood Services, who will be holding a blood drive, to Massage Therapy programs, the day is filled with a variety of different options.
Since Springfield College is known for its good standing in wellness, the Fit Fest recognizes National Recreational Sport and Fitness Day, an annual event of the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association. The day is co-sponsored by the Department of Campus Recreation and Bolduc’s Apparel.
The event will take place in the Field House from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., along with other events on campus that day.
