WENHAM – Another day, another road game for the Springfield College men’s soccer team. This time, the site was Wenham, Massachusetts for a visit to Gordon College and a match up with the Lions. The Pride picked up their second consecutive victory with a 1-0 win on Tuesday afternoon.

Springfield (5-2) was sparked by an unassisted goal from senior captain Brad Deckel in the 51st minute that proved to be enough to outlast Gordon (4-3).

The goal came off of a penalty kick and for Deckel it was his third goal of the season. Deckel is the team leader in goals (3) and points (7) on the 2018 season.=

The shutout was the fourth of the season for Springfield’s defense and it helped lower their goals allowed per game average down to a staunch 0.70 on the year. Stewart Frank, who received NEWMAC Defensive Player of the Week this morning, was in net again and recorded two more saves on his season total.

Springfield held a 20-11 shot advantage (13-2 shots on goal). The Pride also compiled a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks on the afternoon.

Springfield returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Wellesley, Mass for a conference matchup with the Babson Beavers. That game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
