WALTHAM – Wednesday night the Springfield College Men’s Soccer team traveled to Waltham for a matchup with the Brandeis Owls. The Pride wound up falling 2-0 to the fourth ranked team in the United Soccer Coaches DIvision III National Rankings.
The loss was the first of the year for Springfield and it came after they had played Brandeis even for the first 54 minutes of the game on Wednesday.
At the 54:21 mark of the second half, the Owls finally broke through and got on the board. Max Breiter took a shot on goal for Brandeis that was saved, but Bryant Nardizzi was there to put home the rebound and spring his team ahead 1-0.
The Owls added another goal late in the game at the 86:14 mark to give them a 2-0 lead which would prove to be the final.
The Springfield offense was limited for the majority of the game. They could only muster eight shots and two of them were on goal. The Owls tallied 10 shots, four of which were on goal.
Brandeis also held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks over the Pride in the game. The loss moved Springfield to 2-1 on the season, meanwhile the Owls improved to 2-1 on the year.
Springfield will now head to Westfield State on Saturday at noon for a matchup with the Owls. The team has their home opener the following day on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. against Stevens College.
