Springfield College Track competes at the Coast Guard Spring Invitational

The Springfield College track team competed in the 2016 USCGA Spring Invitational this past weekend in New London, C.T. The women finished in 7th place with a score of 49 points, while the men finished in 9th place with a score of 40 points.

The women were led by Carly Markos who finished 2nd in the hammer throw with a distance of 43.06 meters. Darian Dailey took home 2nd in the triple jump with a distance of 9.75 meters. Erin Womboldt jumped to a 3rd place finish in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.36 seconds. The 4 x 100 meter relay team finished in 2nd place with a combined time of 51.83 seconds. Kailee Oates rounded out the women’s’ strong performances by taking 4th in the javelin throw with a distance of 30.02 meters and 7th in the discus throw with a distance of 31.19 meters.

The men were led by Brandon Hammerstrom who took first in the shot put with a distance of 14.08 meters and 5th in the hammer throw with a distance of 43.48 meters. Whit Devaux threw his way to 2nd in the javelin throw with a distance of 51.14 meters. Timothy Harvey finished 2nd in the triple jump with a distance of 12.40 meters. Johnathan Ready ended up in 8th in the shot put after throwing a distance of 11.36 meters. Daniel Lane rounded out the men’s performance by taking 8th place in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.86.

The team will look to shake off the rust and improve next weekend at home, against Middlebury and SUNY Plattsburgh.
