Springfield College Golf Coach Joe Eadie Confident Heading Into The Upcoming Season

Despite what seemed to be a rough weekend at the Williams Invitational for the Springfield College golf team, with a 15th place finish on Saturday and a 16th place finish on Sunday, head coach Joe Eadie is still bright about what his experienced roster can bring to the table for the rest of the fall season and beyond.

“One goal. Win the conference and qualify for nationals,” said Eadie after the Pride’s Invitational over the weekend.

One of the bigger NEWMAC storylines heading into the season was Babson College, who finished tied for fifth over the weekend, leaving Springfield’s conference, the NECC (New England Collegiate Conference).

Babson has placed first in the conference for the last four years and placed in the top two for the last nine years. Now that they have switched conferences, the NECC is more open than ever.

One of the new favorites to win the conference is Springfield. The Pride has placed second in the NECC Championship three years in a row, falling short to the Beavers in each of those seasons.

When asked if he feels that Springfield is now the team to beat in the conference, Eadie responded with a confident, “Yes.”

He added, “It is going to be a collective effort to win, but Mike (Strong), Matt (Gazaille), and Jake (Raichle); the core guys of the team, I have full faith in.”

Strong, Gazaille and Raichle are all returning players for the Pride. Over the weekend, Strong shot a 163, with both Gazaille and Raichle shooting a 158. Freshman Corey Roya, the only first-year on the team, shot a 166 as well.

Eadie has seen how Roya is adapting to his collegiate competition so quickly.

“Corey, the only freshman on the team, is already fitting in with the group.”

Eadie also sees vast improvement is his aformentioned “Big Three” of Strong, Gaizelle and Raichle.

“I can tell that they worked hard during the summer.”

Springfield tees off next on Sept. 29 for the NECC Championships at the Wachusett Country Club.
