On Thursday afternoon I had the pleasure of heading to the Basketball Hall of Fame for the press conferences and jacket presentation of the 2018 inductees. All thirteen inductees are special in their own right, but I had some personal time with two specific members of the class.
Charlie Scott and Dino Radja, who both spent time in their careers with the Boston Celtics, were two players I got to have some alone time with. I asked them about their favorite memory in Boston and both of them had fond memories of the city and its people. It was an honor and a pleasure to hear those tales first hand.
In addition to them, I sat in on press conferences for Ray Allen, Grant Hill, Maurice “Mo” Cheeks, and Rick Welks. The experience was incredible and totally surreal.
It was my second time at the Basketball Hall of Fame, but my first time surrounded by the greats of the field I am studying to enter. David Aldridge of TNT, Frank Isola, Brian Scalabrine, Gary Washburn from the Globe, and so many other notable reporters were there.
It was a valuable experience and one I feel very lucky to have had. The Hall of Famers deserve a thank you for their patience and putting up with so many questions from the media, they were incredibly accommodating all day.
Thank you Calvin Hill and thank you Marty Dobrow for the opportunity, and most importantly thank you and congratulations to the 2018 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inductees.
