Springfield to host Jim Calhoun, Bob Ryan, Alexander Wolff, among others in Hall of Fame induction program

This Saturday in the Dodge room, starting at 10 a.m., Springfield College will be hosting the New England Basketball Hall of Fame Induction program. The event will feature notable basketball personalities, and renowned sports journalists.

The conference will be split into four different panel sessions. There will also be an Honors Luncheon at noon. During lunch there will be recognition for Jim Calhoun, Carol Stiff, the late Buzz Ridl, the 2015-16 Tufts University Women’s Basketball Team, Paul Procopio, and the 1954 Holy Cross NIT Championship Team. Springfield College president, Dr. Mary-Beth Cooper and author John Molina will also receive special awards.

The first panel will feature ESPN visionary Carol Stiff, poet Jack Ridl and retired psychiatrist Dr. Donald Pet. Retired award winning journalist of The Hartford Courant, Tom Condon will moderate.

The second panel will discuss the history of New England basketball. The panelists in the discussion will include Holy Cross legends Ron Perry and Togo Palazzi, as well as former UCONN assistant Bill Gaertner.

The floor will be Calhoun’s for the third panel, as the legendary UCONN coach will be joined by former AIC teammates Henry Payne and Paul Procopio.

The final event of the day will feature renowned basketball writers Bob Ryan and Alex Wolff. Wolff once gave the commencement speech at Springfield College, and he wrote The Audacity of Hoop, a book about Barack Obama and basketball. Professor Marty Dobrow will moderate the panel.
