This weekend, Springfield College was host of the 2022 Division III New England Regional Wrestling Championships, as they welcomed 19 teams with determined wrestlers from all across the region looking to punch their ticket to Nationals.

The Pride got off to a lightning quick start on Saturday, with senior Chris Trelli and juniors Joey Manginelli and Chase Parrott advancing to the semifinals after two wins and no losses each.

Following the first day of competition, Springfield still had eight members of its team alive and hunting for National Tournament berth. Gianni Manginelli, Jake Deguire, Jake Harry, Sam Ware and Mike Filieri all joined the aforementioned J. Manginelli, Trelli and Parrott to compete on Sunday.

Sunday was highlighted by Joey Manginelli, who was able to shake off an early loss and claim his second career National Tournament berth after back-to-back wins in the consolation semifinals and in the third-place bout in the 125-pound weight class.

Trelli wrapped up his incredible Springfield College wrestling career with a fifth place finish at 141 pounds. Trelli was outstanding all year long for the Pride, and he went out in style with a decisive 8-1 victory.

Parrott, Deguire and Filieri also finished fifth, while Gianni Manginelli was the second-highest Springfield finisher – taking fourth at 133 pounds.

Springfield concluded the day with a fourth place team finish, behind New York University (third), Coast Guard (second) and Johnson and Wales University (first).

Joey Manginelli will now look to represent the Pride as the lone member of the team heading to Iowa for the National Tournament on March 11 and 12.
