When you think of fall, what’s the first article of clothing that comes to mind? If it’s socks, you’re way off. Cardigans should have been what popped into your head.
Cardigans are a staple in every body’s wardrobe in the fall. They are great because they come in so many different styles, such as long, cropped, printed, solid, nubby-knit or embellished.
You can wear them to class or work, and layer them under your jacket or even over a dress. But because girls like to change their wardrobe up so much, here are a few tips on how to make your sweaters look brand new.
The first way to spice up your sweater look is to try draping it. You don’t even have to put your arms through the sleeves. Just resting the sweater on your shoulders will make you look super stylish. This is a really chic way to wear a cardigan. Try bright colors and prints to really stand out.
The next item on the list are the buttons. The buttons they put on cardigans are so flimsy. If you are good with a needle and thread, try replacing the plastic buttons with vintage buttons. You can find buttons that are perfect at a flee market or in a Rag Shop.
The next thing to try is knotting your cardigan. Instead of belting your cardigan or buttoning it, try taking the bottom corners and tying them in a knot. It will flatter your waistline much more and give you a new, hip look. The goal is to have the knot land at the slimmest part of your mid-section.
Lastly, try pinning your cardigan instead of just buttoning it up in the same old-fashioned way. Go into your jewelry box, or your mom’s jewelry box, and grab some of the old brooches that are just sitting in there taking up space. To achieve this amazing new look, wrap your sweater like a robe, and use one or three brooches to pin the overlying corner in place, somewhere above your hip.
Try these few tips and I promise you will not regret it. They will make the cardigans you have had forever look brand new. These tips will also make you look like you are all about fashion.
