VOTE: The Springfield Student Athlete of the Week for Feb. 28 – March 6

This week’s nominees:

Sam Hourihan – The junior forward scored 45 points and grabbed 25 rebounds in the women’s basketball team’s two NCAA Tournament games this past week. She had a career-high 28 points against Ithaca, including a buzzer-beating game-winning shot to advance to the Sweet 16.

MacKenzie MacLeod – The senior gymnast set a school record on the beam with a score of 9.875. She also impressed on the floor and the vault with a score of 9.600 in each event.

Angela Czermcha – The first-year basketball player gathered 28 points while shooting 54% from the field and collecting 20 rebounds in the NCAA Tournament.

Haley Moody – The sophomore goalkeeper for the women’s lacrosse team tallied nine saves, which included four in the game’s final three minutes with the team’s lead on the line.

And on the men’s side:

Andrew McCarty – The sophomore outfielder went 4-for-12 with two home runs and a triple along with solid defense in right field this past weekend.

Liam York – The junior outside hitter gathered 31 kills on a .418 hitting percentage throughout the week.

Brendan Kirck – The senior pitcher threw four scoreless innings of one-hit ball along with seven strikeouts on Saturday against Western New England.

Jakarie Williams – The junior gymnast scored career highs in the floor exercise (13.900) and the vault (14.300) in a dual meet against William & Mary and Oklahoma.
