A monumental climb in the national rankings has the Springfield College women’s soccer team ranked higher than they have ever been before under the direction of coach John Gibson.
After not receiving a single vote in last week’s rankings, the Pride were ranked No. 14 in the country in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) national poll as of Sept. 13.
The team has started the season on a roll, compiling a 3-1 record, with their most prominent win coming against then-No. 18 Brandeis.
The Pride overcame the Judges 2-0 to propel them to victory. Their other wins came against Lasell and Rhode Island College. The team shut out their opponent in all three wins.
Their only loss came to Westfield State in a hard-fought 1-0 game in the Springfield College Invitational Title.
Overall, the team has outscored its opponents 9-1.
Senior Katie Mantie, the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, has been a vital part of the Pride’s success.
Mantie leads the team with four goals and is tied for the team lead with two assists to date.
