Because we’re New England, this campus could see snowfall anytime now. There were some flakes earlier in October but clearly nothing substantial. Even though I’m holding out hope it stays 60 degrees and sunny all the way through November, the potential for an early winter always gets me thinking about the holidays. What better way to kick the season off early than a re-release of “Home Alone” in theatres?
According to /Film.com, the 1990 Christmas film hits select theatres for the 25th Anniversary of its release Sunday, November 8 and Wednesday, November 11. It’ll play at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. local time on each of those days. Exclusively Cinemark theatres (Rave Cinemas in West Springfield is one) are showing a 2pm movie instead of the 4:30pm.
This movie was an absolute blast to watch as a little kid. Although I don’t remember watching it until probably 10 years after it came out and everything seemed a little bit dated, it’s still an all-time classic Christmas movie for children.
Macaulay Culkin, who stars as eight year old Kevin McCallister, is forgotten by his family just before Christmas as they left to visit family in France. Kevin slept in the attic because of an argument with his mother the night before. Due to an overnight snowstorm that knocked out the power and all of the alarm clocks, the family woke up late in a panic, not remembering to wakeup Kevin and eventually leaving him at home for a number of days. The family has quite a few kids so it seems (somewhat) possible that they could forget one.
Kevin would go on to enjoy beginning of his stay at home alone, but after a number of run-ins with bumbling low-level criminals (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern), he begins to panic and is more scared than anything.
I still see Home Alone from time to time on TV around Christmas and it’s definitely something I’d keep on because of how much I used to enjoy it. I might just have to check this out in theatres.
