Springfield College’s golf team is off to a great start of the season and are looking good heading into the Duke Nelson tournament this weekend located at the Ralph Myhre Golf course in Middlebury, Vt. In past years, the golf team has had great performances at this tournament, including last fall when they placed 4th out of 24 respectively on both Saturday and Sunday.
“I think our team has struggled a little after the first week, but I am confident we have five guys who can easily shoot the five lowest scores this weekend.” said sophomore Adam Ziewacz.
Ziewacz was the team’s highest finisher last weekend, placing 10th with a 27-hole score of 115.
With many returners who have competed in this tournament in past years, Springfield has much to be excited for. ”Our lineup consists of five returning seniors and i hope to duplicate the way we played last year.” Said Coach Joe Eadie.
The Duke Nelson Tournament, consists of 26 teams from throughout New England and a few from New York. With the lineup consisting of all returning seniors,
The Springfield College Men’s Golf team opened the 2012 fall campaign with a solid sixth place finish in Hebron, Conn. at the Trinity Invitational.
“I think we have five of the best players in the New England region competing on one team this week, and I think the scores this weekend will prove that.” said Ziewacz
With a new season comes a new addition to the Springfield’s program. Richard Trammel is a graduate student here at Springfield and is working with the team on something different than putting or swinging the club. He is going to work with team on course management and how to keep mental toughness.
“I want to focus on cognitive behavioral process and visualization,”said Trammel. “Help the athletes learn ways to refrain from anger and teach them how to avoid the same shot next time instead of throwing the club.”
The Pride will play the first round of the Duke Nelson on Saturday with an approximate tee time of 1:00 pm with the second round taking place on Sunday with the first golfers going out around 9:00am.
