Men’s and Women’s Gymnastics On the Way to Another Strong Season

Both the men’s and women’s gymnastics teams have gotten their seasons under way in the last week. Both teams are full of talent and are looking for big things this year as the competitions roll on. Both teams are hoping to be competing deep into March when the season will turn to the ECAC and NCGA Championships for the women’s team, and ultimately in April, the NCAA Championships for the men.

The leader of the men’s team, senior Ty Evans, competed with the USA Men’s Gymnastics elite in Las Vegas, hoping to earn a spot on the national team. The participants included many athletes from Division I powerhouses such as Oklahoma, Ohio State, Stanford and Michigan. Evans finished respectably in both events he competed in and will definitely be a senior that the men’s team leans on all year long.

Other key contributors will include Ryan Ponce and Jimmy Pezzino. Evans and Pezzino both won USAG National Championships last year and will be hungry to help the Pride this season. Coach Steve Posner has named Evans and Ian Crider captains and feels this team is ready to have a successful season.

For the women’s team, Brittany Baglow and Megan German will be leaned on heavily to lead the Pride all season long. German, Kristina Lantos and Carly Flynn are the three captains for Coach Cheryl Raymond’s team. They have a lot of talent and will look to improve as the season moves on.

The gymnastics season is just getting started for both teams, and it looks as if positive things are to come.
