Men’s soccer rebounds after first defeat

The Springfield College Men’s Soccer team continued one the program’s finest starts with a 5-0 non-conference win over Anna Maria on Monday night.

After playing through a scoreless first half, Springfield erupted for five goals in the second half. Ryan Elster buried a free kick in the 47th minute for his first career goal, putting Springfield up 1-0.

Tim Wood pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 56th minute. Danny Murphy took a feed in the corner from Wood, navigated the end line, before finding Wood wide open in front of the net.

Luke Alvaro netted his seventh goal of the season in the 58th minute off of assists from Christian Schneider and Nick Kobel.

The onslaught continued throughout the second hal, scoring a pair in a span of 56 seconds. Wayne Belcher sent a ball of an Anna Maria defender in the 64th minute before Curtis Bolduc buried the Pride’s final goal of the game off a Schneider assist.

Despite owning a 6-1 overall record, Springfield is 0-1 in conference play following a 1-0 loss to Wheaton on Satuday. Wheaton buried the lone goal of the game in just the fifth minute of action. Springfield outshot Wheaton 13-11, including 5-2 in shots on goal.

Springfield returns to conference play on Saturday as they visit Emerson (2-4. 0-1 NEWMAC), before hosting Johnson & Wales on Tuesday the 29th at 7:00 p.m.
