Two-time NEWMAC Men’s Diver of the Year Jack Lewis showed exactly why he was worthy of that honor, as he posted an eye-popping score in the NCAA Diving Regional Championship last Friday night.
The senior diver broke a 10-year-old Springfield College record, as his 579.05 score on the 3-meter board broke the previous record (573.60) set by Mike Shaw in 2009.
Lewis finished second overall on Friday behind Tuft’s Matthew Rohrer.
On the women’s end, all-conference diver and junior Melanie Avdoulos broke Springfield’s record on the 1-Meter board, with a score of 488.5, good for fourth overall in the women’s NCAA Diving Regional Championship.
The previous record was held by Jennifer Thompson (487.20), set in 2013.
Sophomore Morgan Kitzmiller posted a score of 453.65 on the 3-Meter board to take fifth overall.
Five members of the Springfield College men’s and women’s swimming and diving progams, senior Jack Lewis (Durham, N.H.), sophomore diver Morgan Kitzmiller (Dover, Pa.), junior Michael Normoyle (Wilbraham, Mass.), sophomore Emily Medeiros (Wakefield, Mass.) and sophomore Christiana Greco (Wilbraham, Mass.), earned spots in the NCAA Championships, which will be held Mar. 18-21 in Shenandoah, Texas.
