Summer Job: Team Services Manager for Grand Sports Management in Colorado.

Cole Finerty is an adventurous guy. This is evident in the fact that he likes to have lacrosse balls shot at him as the goalie for the Pride men’s lacrosse team, but his hunger for living on the edge doesn’t only live in between the posts.

This summer, Finerty packed up his 2002 Camry (which has 230,000 miles on it already) and drove from New Hampshire to Denver, Colo. for his summer job as as a Team Services Manager for Grand Sports Management.

In his time with the company from May 23rd to August 10th, he helped run national tours of different sporting events. For example, he worked directly with KICK IT 3v3 Soccer, a small-sided soccer tournament tour in North America that launched in 1990. He worked in the company’s office organizing and hiring people that would be needed for certain events. He also organized the usage of rental trucks and drove them to sites.

“I just went for it,” he said on his mindset heading into the job.

His journey from New Hampshire to Colorado was his longest-ever trekk by car. He made a stop in Ohio to stay with former Pride men’s lacrosse player Ty Daugstrup for a night. His next stop came in Nebraska, at a truck stop hotel. From there, he made the long haul to Colorado.

The experience convinced Finerty that he is open to expanding his horizons and moving away from New Hampshire after graduation.

“I think [the job] set me up [for] living on my own after college. The job solidified in me that I want to pick up a nomadic style; move away, meet new people after college and figure it out. It was a really liberating experience.”
