Summer Job: Worked in athletic department at Endicott College

Springfield College Junior, Nick Perenick, a Communications/Sports Journalism major landed a summer gig working in the Athletic Department at Endicott College underneath the Sports Information Director, Shawn Medeiros.

“[Medeiros’] job was getting out the social media, the rosters the press releases everything like that,” said Perenick. “So, on the first day I was thrown in on spreadsheets, which is pretty tough, and after that I was fully emerged into what it was like to be a Sports Information Director.”

Perenick’s job included aiding Medeiros in rosters, press releases, feature stories and a handful of other game day and pre-season preparation for the Gulls.

In the months from June to late August, Perenick was able to work with the football team extensively covering the season in all facets of social media outlets as well as sitting in on practices with the Team Impact Player, Erik Bell. Aside from football and the other returning fall sport teams, Perenick was involved with the organization of community sports that took place at Endicott.

“One of the coolest parts [of the job] was Endicott hosted the Boston Cannons in the community game,” he said. “The assistant Athletic Director [Mark Kulakowski] put me on the mic at halftime as the [Public Announcer], so they gave me a lot of first hand experience in a professional setting.”

As Perenick returned to the western half of Massachusetts as the familiar voice over the P.A. system in Blake Arena as well as Stagg Field, he doesn’t hesitate to mention that the one thing he’ll miss the most is interacting with the staff in the Athletic Department at Endicott on a day to day basis.

“There was not a better place to learn then there,” he said.
