This weekend will be the first Family Weekend 5K run. The event is hosted by the Class of 2015 with the purpose to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities. To register, students, faculty, family and any others will need to arrive between 8 to 9 a.m. on Sunday. The run starts at 8:30 a.m. on Blake Track.

The Ronald McDonald House is an organization that supports families that have a child with a serious medical condition or illness and are hospitalized for long periods of time away from home. This house is a “home away from home” for families so that they can stay close to their sick, hospitalized child at a low cost, if any cost at all.

“We chose the Ronald McDonald House for our choice of charities because the cause was close to one of the members of the class of 2015. As this class is focusing on ‘A year of service,’ we hope to continue to support this organization throughout the year,” said Karen Kisiel, the information and welcome desk supervisor in the Richard B. Flynn Campus Union.

This event is getting the class of 2015 involved with Family Weekend. There will be another 5K in November during President Mary-Beth Cooper’s Inauguration.

“With such a health-conscious campus community, we thought this event would complement the campus community and their families,” Kisiel said.
